The long-awaited trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming just arrived a few days ago, and while the film isn’t due in theaters until July, Sony has announced that it will be releasing its sequel on July 5th, 2019.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony has set a July 5, 2019 release date for the second Spider-Man: Homecoming film, moving the expected release date for Bad Boys 4 up a month to make room for the latest adventures of our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Bad Boys 4 will now open against Warner Bros. Minecraft movie on May 24, 2019.
Lest we forget that there still has to be a Spider-Man: Homecoming before a Spider-Man: Homecoming 2, here is the plot synopsis for the upcoming Marvel film:
Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May, under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark. Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine, distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, but when the Vulture emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.
Tom Holland, who made his debut as the hero in this summer's Captain America: Civil War, stars as the Marvel hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming, which hits theaters July 7, 2017. Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man co-stars in the film as a superhero mentor to the web-slinger in what appears to be a new storyline in the Spider-Man world. Michael Keaton also stars in the movie, along with Donald Glover, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Hannibal Buress, Michael Mando, Logan Marshall-Green, and Tony Revolori.
The Spider-Man solo sequel will form part of a six-picture deal Holland has signed, including three solo films and three other appearances within the MCU - presumably including the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War.
Doctor Strange is now in theaters; Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – May 5, 2017; Spider-Man: Homecoming – July 7, 2017; Thor: Ragnarok – November 3, 2017; Black Panther – February 16, 2018; Avengers: Infinity War – May 4, 2018; Ant-Man and the Wasp – July 6, 2018; and Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019.
