Paramount Pictures finally dropped the Transformers 5 trailer (or Transformers: The Last Knight as it were), in which Optimus Prime is fighting Bumblebee and seemingly about to kill him.
Director Michel Bay promised to bring out the best of the war between humans and machine with his directorial venture Transformers: The Last Knight and going by the trailer it appears he may be spot on. The explosive first trailer of the live action thriller has mesmerised fans with a thrilling storyline that is not only action-packed, but also has an exciting plot to narrate.
In the trailer, which seems to span several time periods and locations on both Earth and in space, the voice of Sir Anthony Hopkins can be heard speaking over the explosive events and offering a cryptic appraisal of a looming war between two worlds, one that will require sacrifice. The preview concludes with a scene featuring Optimus Prime throwing fellow Autobot soldier Bumblebee to the ground and asking for forgiveness as he seemingly tears the latter robot apart and then impales him.
The struggling engineer from the Age Of Extinction will join hands with Isabela Moner's Izabella, an orphan girl who befriends a tiny lost Cybertronian named Sqweeks, and Josh Duhamel to fight the epic war with the rest of the Autobots.
"It has been said, through the ages, without sacrifice, there can be no victor. Two species at war, one flesh, one metal. Optimus Prime has left us. One hundred billion trillion planets in the cosmos, you want to know. Don't you, why they keep coming here," the voiceover says in the trailer.
The official synopsis reads:
"Optimus Prime finding his home planet, Cybertron, now a dead planet, which he comes to find he was responsible for killing. He finds a way to bring the planet back to life, but in order to do so he needs to find an artifact, and that artifact is on Earth."
Returning human cast members confirmed to appear in the film include Transformers: Age of Extinction star Mark Wahlberg as Cade Yeager, Josh Duhamel as Lt. Col. Lennox, Tyrese Gibson as Robert Epps, and Stanley Tucci as Joshua Joyce all reprising their roles from previous installments of the series. New cast members include the aforementioned Hopkins in an unidentified role and Isabela Moner (100 Things to Do Before High School, Growing Up Fisher) as Izabella, as well as Jerrod Carmichael, Laura Haddock, and Santiago Cabrera. Once Upon A Time actor Liam Carrigan will reportedly play King Arthur in the film. This will be the last film in the franchise directed by Michael Bay, but there’s the Bumblebee solo movie and the next Transformers movie coming in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
Transformers: The Last Knight opens June 23, 2017, and will hopefully have a shorter run time than the 165 minutes of its immediate predecessor.
